    • Notes from My Search For John Stephen Jackson:

"Sometime in the fall of 1838, Elizabeth C (Betsy Veazey) Ard left Houston County and moved to Taliaferro County to live with William and Cynthia Johnson. On 9 Jun 1842, she married James J. Eley, a widower from neighboring Greene County. Census records show them living in White Plains."

"In May 1850, James J. Eley was listed as a 'Trustee' of the Methodist Episcopal Church South at White Plains and in 1869 he was listed as a member of both the 'Committee on State of the Church' and the 'Committee on Church Literature'."

"The 1860 list of 'Female Members' includes 'Elisabeth Ely'. Mrs. Elizabeth C. Eley, along with her servants Lucy and Sarah, is also on a 23 Jan 1863 list of 'persons who knitted socks, given to the Volunteers of Greene County'.

"On 16 Aug 1867, after nearly 40 years, Elizabeth C. Eley joined the White Plains Baptist Church by letter from her former church in Eatonton!  A month later, she was 'appointed to receive contributions for missions'. [4]
