- Marlene Hickman transcribed the following set of articles from the Chignecto Post:
July 13, 1871 - Chignecto Post: "E B Dixon Esq. intends leaving Sackville for the Pacific Coast early in October next. His large circle of friends will greatly regret his leaving."
July 20, 1871 - Chignecto Post: An ad appeared in this issue for "Dixon & Fawcett" - E B Dixon Sackville.
As well, the following appeared:"NOTICE - To be sold at public auction at the subscribers residence on Thursday, 3rd of August, commencing at 10 o'clock AM. All his household furniture, comprising in part Tables, Chairs, Sofas, What not, Bed and Bedding, Bedroom Sets and Bedsteads, Carpets, Pictures, Stores, Crockery and Glassware & c. Also About 20 cords of Hardwood, part of it sawed and ready for the stove, 6 chaldrons best Sydney Coals, and a variety of articles too numerous to mention. Terms know at Sale. N.B. The subscriber intending to leave the country will sell this House and Store Property on reasonable terms or will treat with any persons wishing to rent for a term of years. E. B. Dixon."
July 27, 1871 - Chignecto Post: "The Auction Sale at the Residence of Mr. E B Dixon to have take place next Thursday is postponed until further notice."
November 1, 1877 - Chignecto Post: "Obituary - Although he has been failing for months, the death of E B Dixon Esq, of this place, on Sunday night last (Oct 28?) was quite unexpected. He was a man of high personal character and in this community where he has had business relations and resided for the past twenty years, he has left an honorable name, and his death at an early age is deeply regretted, not only by hosts of personal friends but by the community at large." 1498 We regret to hear of the death of B. DIXON which occurred at Sackville (West. Co.) Sunday night. He was for many years manager of the Montreal line at that place and was one of the oldest telegraph operators in the Lower Provinces. Mr. Dixon married Miss HICKMAN of Dorchester, who survives. 30 October 1877 D.T.
