"I have the will of Thomas Howell, Jr. that names his daughter Sarah Pitman ... I got it in Halifax Co., N.C. Record of Wills 3 p. 260 ... I have Thomas, Jr. listed as a veteran in the American Revolution, receiving land in 1785 for his service, and his father as a patriot of the Revolution for signing an oath to the Independent Government of N.C."

      Lundie W. Barlow notes:

"That the Thomas who died in 1795 was the son of the Thomas who died in 1777 is strongly evidenced by the fact that Patience Pierce, daughter of the former, witnessed the will of the latter, her grandfather.  Patience was a McKinne name."
