    Richard Warren

It is believed that Richard Warren was born about 1578 in England, but nothing has been conclusively established concerning his ancestry or the exact location of his birth. He married prior to 1610. We know only his wife's first name, Elizabeth.

When Richard Warren sailed on the MAYFLOWER from Southampton he left his wife and five daughters, Mary, Anna, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Abigail behind. They all came to Plymouth on the ANNE in 1623.

Richard Warren was one of the 41 signers of the Mayflower Compact. He was accorded the title of "Mr" which was used in those times to distinguish someone because of birth or achievement. Similarly, his wife was called "Mrs" over the years, when most women were simply called "goodwife."

They had a total of seven children, the last two being sons, Nathaniel and Joseph, born at Plymouth.

Descent from Richard Warren has been proven through all of the children.
Richard Warren died in 1628 after a long illness. Elizabeth survived him by forty-five years, being prosperous in her own right, apparently through wise land management, and without remarrying. She died 2 October 1673, over 90 years old.

Notes from WFT Vol 1, #0638:

These notes are to be used to highlight specific individuals in respective generations of the Richard Warren Family Tree.

GENERATION #1 - Richard Warren was a descendant of Charlemagne. He married Elizabeth Jonat,(Juatt or Marsh or Evans) in England and as Pilgrims, they emigrated to Leyden, Holland in the early 1600's.

GENERATION #2 - Richard Warren, Jr. was a passenger on the Mayflower in 1620. His wife Ann, with their five daughters, came to America on the "Anne" in 1623.

GENERATION #3 - Sarah Warren's husband John Cooke was a passenger on the Mayflower (See the Cooke Line)
Richard Church emigrated from England to Boston, the Massachusetts Colony, in 1630. He served as a Sargeant in the Pequot Indian War.

GENERATION #4 - Church Sturtevant married Sarah Leach. (See the Sturtevant Line)

Notes from : "Ancestors of Robert C. Bradley: Thirteenth Generation" http://www.unf.edu/faculty/rbradl/ancestor/i0001115.htm

Richard immigrated in 1620. He came to America on the famous "Mayflower" voyage. He was not one of the Puritans fleeing religious persecution for Leyden Holland, but rather was one of the "strangers" picked up in London by the ship (the "strangers", over 30 men and families, comprised more than half the Mayflower passengers).

The Mayflower, having departed Plymouth England 6 September 1620, landed in America later that year. Richard's wife and five daughters came later aboard the "Anne" in 1623. He was not one of the Leyden, Holland Pilgrims, but instead had been a merchant at Greenwich County of Kent, England (Directory of Ancestral Heads). He joined the Pilgrims in Southampton and upon their landing at Plymouth, was one of ten men chosen to be in the exploring party, and was one of those surprised by Indians in "The First Encounter".

Though Warren appears to have been all but excluded from some Pilgrim histories such as Bradford's, it appears he was among the more important and accomplished of the Pilgrims.

Richard was one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact, the first establishment of civil government in America. He was given the prefix "Mr.", or Master, by Governor William Bradford, which indicates one of high birth or achievement. he may have had a period of illness before his death in 1628.

Even so, he appears as a leader of one of twelve groups formed to own cattle in 1627. In that same year, he is listed as one of the 58 sole proprietors of land in Plymouth Colony. His wife, Elizabeth, outlived him by 45 years. She never remarried, but was allowed to succeed to her husband's rights as "Purchaser". She was honored with the title "Mrs.", as most women were called "Goodwife". (Mayflower families, 1981: Mass. Society of Mayflower Descendants)

    Hoax's

WARREN. Richard Warren's wife was not Elizabeth (Juett/Jewett/Jonatt) Marsh.

Richard Warren's parents have not been identified, and he has no documented descent from Sir John de Warrene, Charlemagne, or anybody else. Royal descent might be very likely for Richard Warren, given his surname and apparent financial soundness in Plymouth; but his parents will have to be identified first before any such claim can be made. Richard married Elizabeth Walker on 14 Apr 1610 in Great Amwell, Hertford. Elizabeth was born about 1583 in Kent, England; died on 2 Oct 1673 in Plymouth, Plymouth, MA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
