    • Shepherd Howell notes: "My grandfather Samuel Monroe died in the spring of 1954 when I was just a few months old. He started his medical practice in Cartersville GA around 1914 and was commonly referred to as "Doc". Samuel Monroe married Anne Cleghorn Harvey of Rome/Cartersville. They had 3 children: Samuel Monroe Jr, 1917-1954. Dorothy 1918-1997. William Harvey Howell (my father) 1925-2008. [5]
