A grocer by occupation, he emigrated from Southwark, Surrey, England to Plymouth in 1633, and was admitted a freeman 1 Jan 1633/34, later removing, in 1639, to Duxbury. He served as Plymouth Colony Assistant from 1635-1637, 1639-1651, and 1654-1665, as Plymouth Commissioner to United Colonies 1643, on a Committee to assess colony taxes, a Committee to lay out highways (for Duxbury side), on the Council of War, Coroner, and numerous other positions. He died between 30 May 1670 and 4 July 1671.
