The history below is of unknown origin:

According to family verbal history Henry came to America with his family as a small boy.  They located at Minerville, PA.

He married Elizabeth Coombs at St. Paul's Chruch by Rector Warison Byltesby.

He enlisted April 21, 1861 as a private at Minersville, Pa.  Enlisted again three months later in the field, made Sgt. later in the year of 1861.

Was in Pennyslvania recruiting from March 16, 1864 to June 1864.  Made Orderly Sgt July 12, 1864.  On July 30, 1864 helped blow up the rebel Fort at Petersbrug, Virginia.  Made First Sgt August 1864, recieved 2nd commission from governor of PA. on Oct 30, 1864.  Recieved Medal of Honor on Feb 21, 1865.  Was later commissioned Captain Co. F., T Regt.. PA.  discharged at Alexander, VA, on Juy 17, 1865.

Military records stated him as 29, height 5 ft., 9 1/2 inches, complextion light, eyes blue, hair red.  Occupation miner.

He was known for his fearlessness "Snapper" Reese helped to quill the uprising of the Molly Maquires and eventually settled in Shamokin where he worked in area mines.

He eventyually became the town chief of police.  Fearless in executing an order, he administrated the law without favor.  When 'Snapper Reese' partly closed one eye and snapped an order the natural instinct was to obey without question or waste of time.

He was close friend of Caption Jack Crawford, Indain fighter and frontiersman who was also a native of Schuylkill county.  They worked together in the mines at Minersville.

Reese also operated a saloon where William F. 'Buffalo Bill" Cody often stopped to visit when he passed throught town.

He was a good sport in the real since of the word one articile wrote.  He was an admirer of game chicken and owned a sorrel stepper that could set the pace for the best horseflesh.

Reese aquired considerable property within Shamokin.  He served a chief burgess for several years prior to his death.  He was a member of Lincoln post 140, Shamokin, PA G.A.R. along with Captain Crawford.

He died of a tooth infection.  He is buried in Shamokin Cemetery, Block 20, range 2, Lot 35.  In the march to the cemetery, there were about 6,000 people in the vicinity of the house, on the streets leading to the cemetery and within the grounds.  His residence at the time of his death was 436 W.
