I'm sure there is more I intend to send. My research is nothing less than an obsession since I find more info often, and locate more relatives of former Davison workers that have more papers and photos.
Hastings was also planning another major railroad system and big mill in western NS to be the Liverpool and Caledonia RR. The 1911 Canadian election over reciprocity (which was lost) caused financial problems and the railway never happened.
The obit for Hastings is attached, although brief. It seems he died Thursday July 31, 1930, just short of 71 years. He is buried in Highwood Cemetery(open attached web page to see more burial info on other Hastings people.) The BIO I have assembled is quite substantial for him, he was a true mover and shaker of the lumber world. A member of the "Hoo Hoos", a club for the elite businessmen in Pittsburgh.
A correction for your site.... Hastings was born August 16, 1859 in Allegheny County, parents were
James Hastings, of Belfast, Ireland, and his mother Mrs.
*Margaret McBride Hastings*, whose birthplace was Glasgow,
Scotland.
NOTE!!! His mother's maiden name McBride. It is my contention that JM Hastings middle name is that opposed to McMillan, even though John West says a relative who has researched the family is the one who says McMillan. Until I see McMillan on a birth certificate or other vintage official document, I go with McBride. Do you know otherwise??

I send people to your site for details. I have been in touch with various families whose relatives border on Davison and Hastings yet they have no detail. My info and your site is helping them to extend their family tree. I guess this is the whole point isn't it?
Most recently on a Dolliver family tree (see http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~whynacht/b88.html ) the fellow mentioned Patrick Doran's middle name as MORINE. I questioned that as it is the only place it is mentioned. The site owner could not verify the source and said he would remove it until he could retrieve the source. There was a MORINE family in Mill Village and Port Medway.
As you know the Liverpool town records show Doran's parents as Patrick and Eleanor of Waterford Ireland. I can't help but wonder about the part that he was in Newfoundland first before Nova Scotia. Not an unusual stopping place but where did the detail come from? Patrick Doran's family may have been a better class of people. I believe Doran could read, write and worked as a clerk for Simeon Perkins. Stories of the gatherings at Doran's house in Mill Village indicate a knowledge and appreciation for the better things in life.
Also, you have a picture of ED Davison's house in Bridgewater, corner of Aberdeen and Elm.(where did that photo come from?) I thought the house of ED Sr was the larger more imposing place further up Aberdeen (see DavisonHouseBW.jpg). Also see the Doran-Davison house.jpg in Mill Village. It is still there and almost unchanged. It was Patrick Doran's and ED Sr lived there pre-Bridgewater.
Anyway, that should give a few points to ponder. Sorry if I do ramble on a bit.
