DEATH OF MRS. ROOP.
Mrs. Katharine Roop, widow of James Roop, died on Monday at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Daniel P. Boggs, of Lena street, with whom she resided. Mrs. Roop, who was a Miss Boyer, was born in 1811 at the old Boyer homestead on Church lane, beyond Chew street. It may truly be said that hers was an unselfish life. For a great number of years she was a very earnest worker in a quiet way, and will be missed by a large circle of friends. She was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church for 56 years. Mrs. Roop's health was impaired for about six years, and during the last year of her life she suffered from debility. Seven weeks ago she fell and fractured her left hip, the accident, it is thought, hastening her death. The interment took place on Thursday afternoon at Hood's Cemetery, the committal, as well as the service at the house, being in charge of the Rev. Frank P. Parkin. Mrs. Roop was twice married. Her surviving children are Samuel Thompson, Harry S. Roop and Mrs. Thomas McCombs. Her son, Gabriel Thompson, was killed at the battle of Gettysburg. [4]
