    • Hearne History Notes:

The land on which William Hearne lived and died, is one-half the tract taken up by his father, and about two miles southeast of Delmar, Del., is the site of his residence. The burying ground is near the residence where he and his wife Elizabeth are buried, and also many of their children and later descendants. The old residence and homestead is now owned and occupied by Charles Wood, one of his descendants.

William Hearne and wife, Mary, were Episcopalians, and members of the Church of England, as were the majority of their descendants for several generations.

The records in Princess Anne, Somerset County, Maryland, show that William Hearne, son of William Hearne (merchant), and Mary, his wife, was born Sept. 24, A. D. 1688, and that Thomas Hearne, son of William (merchant), was born of Mary, his wife, May 31, A. D. 1691.

WILLIAM HEARNE, SOfl of William and Mary, born Sept. 24, 1688, and died about Jan. 1, 1756, at the age of sixty-eight years (as shown by the probation of his will), left children named as follows: Elijah, Isaac, Jonathan, Samuel, John, Benjamin, Hannah, Mary, who married Freney, and Sarah who married Tindal. His wife was named Elizabeth. as shown bv deeds of record. It is worthy of note that the wife and all nine children have scripture names.
