"Between 15 May 1827 and 2 Aug 1834, David S. McBride purchased six adjoining land patents totaling nearly 720 acres in the southeast corner of Gadsden Co., FL."
"David apparently moved his family to Florida in 1828; he was listed on the 1830 census for Gadsden Co., FL with six minors (three boys and three girls), four adults (two unidentified), and 19 slaves. on the 1840 census for Gadsden County, David S. McBride is listed twice, once in the town of Quincy with 10 free white persons and 13 slaves in his household --and a second in the county (presumably his farm) with no free whites listed, just 13 more slaves."
"David S. McBride died before 1860; census records indicate that he left a sizable estate."
"The estate of D. S. McBride is also listed on teh 1860 slave schedule for Wakulla County...three times for a total of 55 slaves; (1) 15 named slaves and 3 slave houses with Samuel A. Spencer as 'Agent', (2) 38 named slaves and 6 slave houses with Harbert C. Gregory as 'Overseer', and (3) 2 named slaves and 1 slave house with wheelwright William R. Brock as 'Agent'." [7]
