    • From "Snow Hill Remembered":

      William Noble, the Gateway Ancestor, born in England abt. 1640, came into Maryland from Accomack County, Virginia.  He first appears in Somerset County in 1686, when the births of his twins, Jonathan and Hannah were recorded.  William is listed in the records as a cooper.  He signed the famous Protestant Declaration of Maryland in 1689.  in 1692 he was appointed a justice, helping lay out the Parishes of Somerset.  In 1695, William patented land called CHERRY GARDEN, located on the north side of the Pocomoke River; also lands called GOOD SUCCESS, CYPRESS, and HATCHLA.  He patented (1695) 150 acres called TIMBER GROVE in Dublin, Election Dist. 4.  He married about 1670 (1) Gennett (Jannett) _____________.  At her death he married (2) Elizabeth Benton, daughter of Joseph Benton of Annamessex, Somerset County, Maryland.  William died Jun 7, 1709; Elizabeth survived him."
