The DAR line of Sara Marguerite Freeney reflects this James Whittington as her revolutionary ancestor b. 1765 and married to Sarah Coulborne 18 Dec 1797. Sarah d. 1811. According to the application, James Whittington fought in the Watkins Point Co,. of the Princess Anne Batalion of the Somerset County Militia (see original Militia List page 189 at the Maryland Historical Society, Balitmore, MD).

The GHOTES web site shows his parents to be William Whittington and Priscilla Polk, but differ in the name of his wife and in the names of his descendants.
http://www.esva.net/ghotes/whittington/d0/i0006510.htm#i6510 shows a son named James Whittington was b. 1775 (10 years after the James in the DAR line above) d. 1853. and married to Sarah Lawson. (Sarah Lawson appears in the DAR application as James' second wife m. 21 Nov 1814). GHOTES says James is shown in the 1860 census, Brinkleys District, Somerset County, age 70 (implies b. 1790), with the following in his household: Sarah 52, Theodore 30, John 25, Sarah Jr. 21, Ceclia 16, Mary 14, Martha 16. Living next door is Henry 32.
