Taken to the right of the porch at aunt Lou and Allie's Red Top [in Bridgewater, NS]. Mum puts her age at 18 - therefore Hal is 16. The picture can then be dated summer of 1934." • Obituary:

Died peacefully at her home, at the age of 92, on January 7, 2009. Survived by her husband, Daniel Whiting Lathrop, age 95; a loving partner for 69 years.
Margaret Davison was born in Toronto on December 29, 1916. She was the daughter of Harold Doran Davison, founder of Welland Electric Steel Castings (d. 1965); and Helen Brown Haistings Davison (d. 1925). She was the great grand daughter of E.D. Davison, founder of the Davison Lumber Company, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.

She is pre-deceased by brother, Pilot Officer Harold H. Davison (d. 1942), killed during World War II.

Margaret graduated from Branksome Hall, Toronto, in 1937, and from the Margaret Eaton School in 1939, the first school of women's physical education training in Canada. She taught at Camp Tanamakoon, Algonquin Park, Ontario and Branksome Hall, Toronto, until she married in 1940.

She is survived by her children: Margot Helen Brebner, Mississauga, Ont., Harold Doran Lathrop, Welland, Ont., John Howland Lathrop, Upper LaHave, Nova Scotia, G. Edward Lathrop, Ottawa, Ont., and Anna Hildegarde Lathrop, Effingham, Ont. Margaret leaves 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. An avid sportswoman all her life, she enjoyed riding horses well into her 70s. She was faithful member of the Anglican Church of Canada, and gave generously to a host of charities and land stewardship initiatives.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Nature Conservancy of Canada. The memorial service will be held at St. David's Anglican Church, 369 Thorold Rd., Welland, Ont., on January 31st at 1:00pm.

The family expresses particular thanks to Dr. Nagai and the nephrology unit of St. Catharines, and Dr. Hartman, Colleen O'Gorman and the members of the ParaMed palliative care unit of Niagara.  Online condolences may be forwarded through www.pedlarfuneralhome.ca

A donation in memory of Mrs. Lathrop is being made to the Welland Hospital Foundation through the Pedlar Funeral Home Lifetime Memories Program. [6]

Dad has a teacup that Nanny left for her mother.

      From Stuart Davison's 4 Jun 2004 email:

ED Jr had three children by his second wife Margaret Robertson - they were Henry Fairweather ( died in infancy) Harold Doran (Bud) and Edward Sumner ( Ned).

I grew up knowing Bud (called Skipper to his granchildren) and Ned.

Ned was a great friend of the family and lived about six miles below my home at Pentz after his retirement from forestry. He always joined our family every Sunday for in those days the the Norman Rockwell " Sunday Roast". On Saturday evenings my mother would have my sister or myself call and invite him for dinner and he always acted  surprised and delighted to come. I have often reflected in later years whether he would have simply appeared if we had nor called! On Sunday, my father not known to be a frequent attendee at church always used as an excuse that someone had to stay home and tend to the roast!! I have many a fond story of Uncle Ned. Ned was never married and therein may be another story. Ned died in August '59 and my Dad that December. It was a particularly sad time for all of us as we lost several close family members in a matter of months.

Uncle Bud in the early 50's built a summer home at the Point. he had two children by his first wife Helen Hastings - Harold Hastings (who died early in the second world war )and Margaret Helen. Margaret is 88 now and I told her about your contacting me. She said that Nellie was divorced from Henry Howell and that I was also right that she married for a third time Henry Schmid. She also remembers Ned and Peter Howell visiting and has a picture of Ned Howell. She recalled her father and Ned trying desperately to find Nellies birth certificate so they could get her out of Germany. She saw no reason why you don't come to Nova Scotia the end of July when she and her husband Whiting Lathrop will be here. Margarets daugther will be here next week and I will ask her what is best for you to contact her mother.
